        • SC/ST: 10 years relaxation in upper age limit will be granted to SC/ST ex-servicemen.
        • OBC: Ex-servicemen coming from OBC category will have relaxation of 8 years in the upper age limit.

Can a candidates get Cumulative Age Relaxation in SEBI Grade A

There is a doubt regarding relaxations that every candidate faces who belongs to more than one category; they struggle to find answers about how relaxations will work for them. Just like that, there was an aspirant who had the same confusion.

The aspirant was 32 years old, and he had served in the Indian military for 7 years. Also, he belonged to other backward classes (OBC).

Everything seemed fine, but he was confused when he decided to attempt the SEBI Grade A exam.

    What was his doubt?

He read the official notification quickly, and then he got to know about relaxations SEBI provides in age across various categories. He was worried to see that the age limit for the SEBI Grade A exam is 30 years old since he was 32 already.

He realized that he is OBC and is eligible for relaxation in the age limit. But then he got confused when he read that SEBI offers relaxation for ex-servicemen also, since he belonged to both; an ex-serviceman and OBC

“Will I get the OBC relaxation or Ex-servicemen relaxation??”, this is the doubt he was struggling with since he will have only one attempt according OBC eligibility, whereas he will have three more years to try.

Let’s see how SEBI Relaxation works in such situations

According to the official document, SEBI provides cumulative age relaxation. Which means the solution of the above-mentioned aspirant is:

      • 3 years of relaxation to OBC,
      • 5 years of relaxation to ex-servicemen

    Hence,

    OBC relaxation + Ex-servicemen relaxation = 3 years + 5 years

    What should he have done?

He was eligible for a total of 8 years of relaxation in the age limit of SEBI Grade A exams, which means he can try as many attempts as he wants till he’s 38 years old.

SEBI clearly mentions that candidates will have relaxation of every category they fall in. He could have avoided the whole confusion and saved his essential time if he had just read the notification carefully.

Who can apply for SEBI Grade A 2026 based on nationality?

    • Candidates should be aware before applying for the exam that there is a nationality-based eligibility criteria in SEBI Grade A exam.
    • As per the eligibility criteria, only Indian citizens are qualified to apply for the SEBI exam.
    • To be eligible, aspirants are required to have a valid identity certificate issued by the Indian Government.

What are the maximum number of attempts allowed for SEBI Grade A?

      • Other than all the other eligibility criteria we have covered above, qualification is also required for the number of attempts, which needs to be considered by candidates.
      • There is no official limit on the number of attempts for the SEBI Grade A exam.
      • Candidates can appear for the exam multiple times as long as they meet the other eligibility criteria, such as age limit and educational qualifications.

However, stay updated with the latest SEBI notifications on this page for any change in the future.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) Eligibility

Any candidate who belongs to PwBD will be eligible for age relaxations according to the official SEBI Grade A PwBD eligibility criteria.

Here is the PwBD age eligibility across all categories:

      • General: PwBD candidates coming from the general category will have an age limit of a maximum 40 years.
      • OBC: Aspirants who belong to PwBD and OBC will have an age limit of 43 years.
      • SC/ST: SEBI Grade A exam age limit for PwBD aspirants from SC/ST is 45 years.

Only a person with a Permanent Benchmark Disability of at least 40% in any of the below mentioned categories will be considered in PwBD. Here are a few PwBD categories:

      • Blindness and Low Vision.
      • Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
      • Locomotor Disability, including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy.
      • Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, and mental illness.
      • Other disabilities (as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016)

Any candidate falling under the above-mentioned category will be eligible for PwBD relaxations irrespective of their classifications (i.e., GEN/SC/ST/OBC). Reservation for PwBD is horizontal and within the overall vacancies for the posts.

Here are the main rules of using a scribe in the examination:

      • The arranged scribe should be from an academic stream different from the examination.
