• SEBI Establishment (1988): SEBI was established in 1988 as a non-statutory body to regulate the Indian securities market. 
• Statutory Status (1992): On 30th January 1992, SEBI became a statutory and autonomous organization through the SEBI Act passed by the Indian Parliament. 
• SEBI Headquarters: The headquarters of SEBI is located in Mumbai, with regional offices in New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad. 
• Functions of SEBI: SEBI works to protect investor interests, regulate stock exchanges, and promote the development of the securities market in India. 
• Importance of SEBI: SEBI plays an important role in maintaining transparency, investor confidence, and stability in India’s financial system. 

The SEBI Grade A exam is one of the most popular and respected examinations among candidates preparing for the banking and financial sector.

• SEBI Full Form – The full form for SEBI stands for Securities and Exhange Board of India. 
• Grade A – This refers to the post of an Assistant Manager.

What are the functions & responsibilities of SEBI?

As per the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, the organization of SEBI is responsible for “protecting the interests of investors, promoting the development of, and regulating the securities market, for matters connected there with or incidental thereto.” 

Hence, SEBI is expected to cater to the needs of – investors, issuers of securities, and market intermediaries. 

To ensure the effective working of the securities market, the SEBI is vested with the following functions: 

• Inspect the book of accounts of financial intermediaries 
• To approve by – laws of securities exchanges 
• Ensure registration of brokers and sub- brokers 
• Inspect the book of accounts and call for periodical returns from recognized securities exchanges 
• Prevention of unfair trade practices and malpractices in the securities market 
• Protection of investor interests and promotion of fair market practices 

An interesting fact to note here is that SEBI as a regulatory body is quasi-legislative, quasi-executive and quasi-judicial, which means it has power to exercise legislative, executive and judicial functions which makes SEBI a powerful organization.   

SEBI Grade A Exam

The SEBI performs an important role in overseeing the securities market and ensuring the protection of investor interests by creating and enforcing regulations and guidelines.  

• The SEBI Grade A exam is conducted on a national level to select qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Managers at SEBI. 
• The selected candidates shall be working on the guidelines of the share market and ensure its regulations using policies.

Now, to make it to final selection of the exam process, the candidates are required to pass through the following three stages:  

SEBI Grade A Selection procedure

• Phase I: The first stage consists of two papers and is objective in nature.  
• Phase II: The second stage comprises of two papers with questions both objective and descriptive in nature.  
• Interview: It is final stage which is conducted to assess the personality of the candidate.  

An important aspect to understand is that while Phase I of the SEBI Grade A exam is qualifying in nature, Phase II holds significant weight in the final selection.

The marks obtained in Phase II contribute 85% to the overall score, while the Interview stage accounts for 15% of the final selection. 

SEBI Grade A Recruitment & Stream

The SEBI Grade A selection procedure takes place in three stages – Phase I, Phase II and the Interview. Generally, SEBI announces vacancies for various streams, which are as follow:

SEBI Grade A 2026 Officer Job Profile

Working as a SEBI Grade A Officer is considered a prestigious career opportunity in the banking and finance sector.

After clearing all stages of the SEBI Grade A exam, candidates join the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) as Assistant Managers and work in different departments related to the securities and capital markets of India. 

• Posting – 
• Irrespective of the whichever stream you had chosen in your exam, you can get posted in any department of SEBI. 
• Postings are generally related to market regulation, investigations, legal affairs, surveillance, corporate finance, and investor protection. 
• Timing – The work timing of a SEBI officer is 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (this timing varies and it is not fixed) 

• SEBI Headquarters – 
• The headquarters of SEBI is located in Mumbai. 
• Major policy-making and administrative functions are managed from the head office. 
• SEBI also has its regional offices in the northern, eastern, southern, and western parts of India, located in cities such as New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, respectively. 
• Roles & Responsibilities of a SEBI Grade A Officer –
• Approval of stock exchanges’ by-laws. 
• Amendment of by-laws of Stock Exchanges.

SEBI Grade A 2026 Salary And Perks

Basic Pay – The salary structure for a Grade A officer includes the basic pay which starts at ₹62,500 per month and increases up to ₹1,26,100 over the course of 17 years. 

Pay Scale – The SEBI Grade A pay scale grows from Rs. 62500 – 3600 (4) – 76900 – 4050 (7) – 105250 –
EB – 4050 (4) – 121450 – 4650 (1) – 126100 [17 years] and increases up to ₹1,26,100 /- over the course of 17 years.  

Gross Salary – The gross salary is approximately ₹1,84,000/- per month without accommodation. However, officers with accommodation (housing or allowance for housing) receive a gross salary of ₹1,43,000/- per month. 

Annual Salary – The SEBI Grade A Annual CTC is approximately 22 to 24 lakh yearly.

This basic pay is the starting point and does not include promotions or increments, which means there is potential for even higher earnings as you progress in your career.

SEBI Grade A Exam Eligibility Criteria 2026

The official notification for SEBI Grade A 2026 has been released. However, based on previous trends, it is likely that the eligibility criteria will remain the same.

SEBI Age Limit –

• According to the official notification, the upper age limit for applicants is 30 years as of 30th September 2025. This means that candidates must not have been born before 01st October 1995.
• Age relaxation is provided for SC/ST, OBC, PwBD, and Ex-servicemen candidates as per government rules. 

Educational Qualification – The minimum educational qualification for the General Stream is given as:

• Master’s Degree/Post Graduate Diploma* (minimum two years’ duration) in any discipline/
• Bachelor’s Degree in Law/Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a recognized University/
• Institute or Chartered Accountant/ Chartered Financial Analyst/Company Secretary/ Cost Accountant.

Nationality – Candidates applying for the SEBI Grade A exam must be Indian citizens.

When will the official SEBI Grade A notification 2026 be released?

Latest Update: SEBI has not yet published the official notification for SEBI Grade A 2026 exams. It is expected that the notification will come out around July to September 2026. 

• SEBI Grade A Application Process: The application process will begin right after the official notification release, which usually ends after 25-30 days. 
• SEBI Grade A Exam Dates: The exam dates for SEBI Grade A Phase 1 & 2 will come with official notification. 
• SEBI Grade A Vacancies: The official notification will also include the number of vacancies. 
• SEBI Grade A Admit card: Admit card for the SEBI Grade A Phase 1 & 2 will be available to download 15-20 days before the exam.

• SEBI Grade A Application Process – The online application process began on 30th October 2025 and is continue till 28th November 2025.
• SEBI Grade A Exam Dates – The SEBI Grade A 2025 Phase 01 is scheduled to be conducted on 10th January 2026, & Phase 02 exam date is 21st February 2026.
• SEBI Grade A Vacancies – the SEBI Gr. A total number of vacancies for the general stream is 56.

This notification includes all the necessary information about the exam, such as the category-wise vacancies announced, the eligibility criteria, exam dates, application process and the last day to apply.

SEBI Grade A Exam 2026 Application Form

Latest Update: The official application dates for SEBI Grade A 2026 have not been released yet. Based on previous trends, the application window generally remains open for around 15-20 days after the notification release. 

The online application process for SEBI Grade A 2026 will begin after the release of the official notification on the SEBI website. Candidates must complete the registration process within the given timeline to successfully apply for the examination. 

Previously, the application process for SEBI Grade A began on 30th October 2025 and will remain open till 28th November 2025. The notification is announced; the application process will begin and remain open for approximately 15-20 days. 

Candidates are advised to be cautious and double-check their information during the SEBI registration process to avoid any errors. 

SEBI Grade A Exam 2026 Application Fees 

The SEBI Grade A application fee based on the official notification is: 

• General / OBC / EWS: ₹1000 + 18% GST 
• SC / ST / PwBD: ₹100 + 18% GST 

Candidates should keep a copy of the application form and e-receipt safely for future reference. 

SEBI Grade A Exam 2026 Admit Card

Latest Update: The SEBI Grade A 2026 Admit Card has not been released yet. Based on previous trends, the admit card is usually released around 1-2 weeks before the exam date. 

• The admit card is an essential document that candidates must carry on the exam day. 
• The admit card contains important details such as exam date, reporting time, exam centre, roll number, and exam day instructions. Candidates must carefully check all details mentioned on the admit card after downloading it. 
• It is used to verify a candidate’s eligibility to appear for the exam. 
• Typically, admit cards for both phases are released 1-2 weeks prior to the exam dates. Without this, entry into the examination hall will not be allowed. 

Previously, The SEBI Grade A Phase 01 exam date is 10th January 2026, and the admit card for the same has been released on 03rd January 2026.

whereas, the phase 02 exam of SEBI Grade A is take place on 21st February 2026.

The official notification for SEBI Grade A 2025 has been released on 30th October 2025. It is important to remember that SEBI announces the exam dates for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 along with the notification.

SEBI Grade A 2026 Exam Pattern

A thorough understanding of the exam pattern can greatly be advantageous to familiarize with the nature of the SEBI Grade A examination.  

SEBI Grade A 2026 Phase 1/Prelims is an on-line screening MCQ based examination consisting of two papers for 200 marks with a total duration of 100 minutes, with: 

Paper 1 – 

• No. of Questions: It consists of 80 questions for total. 
• Marks: This paper contains 100 marks. 
• Duration: This paper needs to be attempted within 60 minutes. 

Paper 2 – 

• No. of Questions: This paper comprises 50 questions. 
• Marks: This paper consists of a total of 100 Marks. 
• Duration: The duration of this paper is 40 minutes. 

SEBI Grade A 2026 Phase 2/Mains is an online examination (both Descriptive and MCQ-based) consisting of 2 papers for 200 marks with total duration of 100 minutes) with: 

Paper 1 – 

• No. of questions: It contains 3 descriptive questions. 
• Marks: This paper consists of a total of 100 marks. 
• Duration: The time limit of this paper is 60 minutes. 

Paper 2 – 

• No. of Questions: This paper consists of 100 questions. 
• Marks: The total mark for this paper is 100 marks. 
• Duration: The duration of this exam is 90 minutes. 

SEBI Grade A 2026 Interview: 

• The interview round consists of a panel of 5 professionals who ask questions from candidates to test their knowledge and personality. 
• SEBI Interview Panelists will ask personal, educational, general questions, decision making and situation-based questions from candidates.

SEBI Grade A 2026 Exam Syllabus

SEBI Grade A Exam Centres 2026

SEBI gives you the flexibility to choose the exam centre, but you need to pick wisely during the application process, because you can’t change it later. 

• You can select up to 3 cities for Phase 1. 
• And 1 city for Phase 2. 

SEBI provides exam centres across multiple cities which differs for each phase of the exam. These are a few exam centres where SEBI conducts their exam:

Latest Update: The exam result for SEBI Grade A 2025 Phase 02 is declared on 27th March 2026 on the official website. 

The Result for the SEBI Grade A Phase 01 has been declared on 30th January 2026.

The SEBI Grade A 2024 Final result has been released on 03rd January 2025 on the official website. 

• SEBI Phase 2 Result – The exam result for SEBI Grade A 2024 Phase 2 had been out on 10th October 2024 on the official website. 

• SEBI Phase 1 Result – The SEBI Grade A 2024 Phase 1 exam result was released on 07th August 2024 on the official website.

SEBI Grade A Exam Cutoff

The Cut-off list plays a key role and can be a game changer for candidates in their final selection as the marks scored by the aspirants must meet the cutoff in order to qualify for the final round.
