• Formation of IRDAI (1999–2000): Following report recommendations, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) was constituted as an autonomous body in 1999. It became a statutory body in April 2000 and began regulating the insurance market as it opened to public and private companies.

An aspirant, after clearing all the recruitment processes, joins IRDAI as an Assistant manager. But their responsibilities depend on the stream through which they are selected and the department in which they are posted.

• Regulation and Compliance: Assistant Managers examine reports, returns and other information submitted by insurers and intermediaries to check whether they are following IRDAI regulations. They may also assist with inspections, enquiries, and further action where non-compliance is found. 
• Policy and Regulation Work: Officers study developments in the insurance sector and help prepare or review regulations, guidelines, circulars and internal policy notes. 
• Financial Monitoring: Depending on the department, they analyze financial statements, solvency positions, investments, reinsurance arrangements and other data to understand the financial health of regulated entities.

How is the work life as an IRDAI Grade A officer? 

IRDAI Grade A officers work as Assistant Managers in a professional and mostly office-based environment. Their routine and responsibilities depend on the department in which they are posted. 

• Work Timing: IRDAI officers work five days a week, with working hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 
• Posting Location: Selected officers can be posted at any IRDAI office, including its head office in Hyderabad and regional offices in New Delhi and Mumbai. They can also be transferred from one department or office to another during their service. 
• Departments: Depending on organizational requirements, officers may work in departments such as Life Insurance, Non-Life Insurance, Health Insurance, Supervision, Finance and Investment, Actuarial, Legal, Information Technology, or Policyholder Protection and Grievance Redressal.

Latest Update: The official notification for the IRDAI Grade A 2026 examination has not been released yet. 

The IRDAI Grade A Notification 2026 is expected between August and October 2026. However, this is only an expected duration.

• IRDAI Grade A Notification 2026: IRDAI will release a detailed notification for the recruitment of Assistant Managers. It will include information regarding the eligibility criteria, vacancies, selection process, exam pattern, syllabus, application fee, salary, examination centres, and other instructions. 
• IRDAI Grade A Application Window 2026: The online application process is expected to begin with the release of the notification. The starting date, last date, and fee-payment deadline will be mentioned in the official notification. 
• IRDAI Grade A Vacancy 2026: The number of vacancies has not been announced yet. Candidates may expect around 40 to 50 vacancies; the actual number may be higher or lower depending on IRDAI’s requirements.

Latest Update: The official IRDAI Grade A Notification 2024 was released on 21st August 2024 for the recruitment of Assistant Managers.  

• IRDAI Grade A Application Window 2024: The online application process started on 21st August 2024 and remained open until 20th September 2024. 
• IRDAI Grade A Vacancy 2024: A total of 49 vacancies were announced across the Generalist, Actuarial, Finance, Law, Information Technology, and Research streams. The Generalist stream had 24 vacancies, while the remaining five streams had 25 vacancies. 
• IRDAI Grade A Exam Dates 2024: IRDAI conducted the Phase 1 examination on 6th November 2024, while the Phase 2 examination was held on 21st December 2024. 
• IRDAI Grade A Admit Card 2024: The Phase 1 call letter was released on 23rd October 2024. Whereas the Phase 2 call letter was released on 11th December 2024.

IRDAI Grade A Vacancy 2026

IRDAI Grade A vacancies’ refer to the number of available Assistant Manager posts. These vacancies are divided among different categories and streams in the official notification. The IRDAI Grade A 2026 vacancy has not been announced yet.  

Previously, IRDAI announced a total of 49 Assistant Manager vacancies in 2024. These vacancies were divided into six streams: 

• Generalist: 24 vacancies 
• Actuarial: 5 vacancies 
• Finance: 5 vacancies 
• Law: 5 vacancies 
• Information Technology: 5 vacancies 
• Research: 5 vacancies 

The Generalist 24 vacancies were further divided among the following categories: 

• General or Unreserved: 21 vacancies 
• EWS: 4 vacancies 
• OBC: 12 vacancies 
• SC: 8 vacancies 
• ST: 4 vacancies  

The recruitment also included 3 vacancies horizontally reserved for PwBD candidates. These vacancies were included within the total of 49 and were not additional posts. 

What is the IRDAI Grade A Eligibility Criteria 2026?

To prepare for the IRDAI Grade A examination, you need to fulfill the eligibility criteria. These criteria are important because meeting them keeps your application valid throughout the IRDAI recruitment process. 

The eligibility depends on age, educational qualification, nationality, and category-based relaxations. Here are the detailed IRDAI Grade A eligibility criteria: 

1) IRDAI Grade A Age Eligibility 

• Minimum age limit: A candidate must have completed 21 years of age by the date mentioned in the notification. 
• Maximum age limit: A candidate must not have crossed 30 years of age by the prescribed date.

The age calculation date and corresponding date-of-birth range for the 2026 examination will be announced through the official notification. 

IRDAI Grade A Age Relaxation 

Candidates belonging to the following categories gets relaxation in the upper age limit: 

• SC/ST candidates are provided with a relaxation of 5 years, which increased their upper age limit from 30 to 35 years. 
• OBC candidates receive a relaxation of 3 years, which increased their upper age limit from 30 to 33 years. 
• PwBD candidates belonging to General/UR get a relaxation of 10 years, can apply up to the age of 40 years. 
• PwBD candidates belonging to OBC are eligible for a relaxation of 13 years, with an upper age limit 43 years. 
• PwBD candidates belonging to SC/ST receive a relaxation of 15 years, which means their upper age limit is 45 years. 
• Eligible ex-servicemen and commissioned officers receive a relaxation of 5 years, according to the military service and release conditions mentioned in the notification.

Important Note – Candidates cannot combine the age relaxations available under different categories.  

2) IRDAI Grade A Educational Qualification 

The following educational qualification applies to candidates applying under the Generalist stream: 

• General, EWS and OBC candidates must have completed graduation in any discipline with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks. 
• SC and ST candidates must have completed graduation in any discipline with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks. 

Aggregate marks refer to the marks obtained across all semesters or years of the graduation course. The degree must be obtained from a university or institution recognised by the Government of India or an approved regulatory body. 

Candidates must also possess basic knowledge of computer operations according to the IRDAI’s official guidelines. 

3) IRDAI Grade A Nationality 

Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for the IRDAI Grade A examination. 

4) IRDAI Grade A Number of Attempts 

IRDAI has not prescribed a specific limit on the number of attempts for the Grade A examination. Candidates can appear multiple times until they reach the applicable upper age limit, provided they meet all other eligibility requirements for that recruitment cycle. 

IRDAI Grade A Application Process 2026 

The official IRDAI Grade A 2026 notification has not been released yet, which is why the opening date, closing date, and total duration of the application window have not been announced.

The application process will begin once IRDAI releases the notification and activates the online application link on its official website. 

Candidates should keep their photograph, signature, educational records and category certificates ready before registration begins. 

In the 2024 application window remained open for about one month, but corrections were allowed only before final registration. Therefore, candidates should check every detail carefully before submitting the 2026 application form. 

IRDAI Grade A Application Process 2024 

The IRDAI Grade A 2024 application process began on August 21, 2024, right after the release of the official notification. The application window remained open until September 20, 2024. Ensuring enough time for the aspirants to fill and submit the application in 31 days. 

Applications were accepted only through the IRDAI website. Candidates could save the form and modify most details before clicking on “Complete Registration”, although certain basic information could not be changed once saved.  

Since IRDAI does not permit changes once the Complete Registration button has been clicked, it makes it absolutely necessary to be careful while submitting the form. 

IRDAI Grade A Admit Card 2026 

Latest Update: The IRDAI Grade A 2026 notification and exam dates have not been announced yet. The admit cards will also be issued once the recruitment cycle begins. 

IRDAI releases separate call letters for Phase 1, Phase 2 and the interview.

For reference, the Phase 1 call letter in 2024 was released 14 days before the exam, while the Phase 2 call letter was released 10 days before the exam. The exact schedule for 2026 will be confirmed after the IRDAI notification is released. 

Once available, candidates will be able to download their admit cards from the IRDAI website using their Registration Number or Roll Number and Password or Date of Birth.

On the examination day, they must carry the printed call letter, an original photo identity proof, and its photocopy.

IRDAI Grade A Admit Card 2024 

• Phase 1 Exam Date: The IRDAI Grade A Phase 1 examination was conducted on 6th November 2024. 
• Phase 1 Admit Card: The Phase 1 admit card was released on 23rd October 2024, 14 days before the examination. 
• Phase 2 Exam Date: The IRDAI Grade A Phase 2 examination was conducted on 21st December 2024. 
• Phase 2 Admit Card: The Phase 2 admit card was released on 11th December 2024, 10 days before the examination. 
• Phase Gap: There was a gap of 45 days between Phase 1 and Phase 2 examinations. 
• Download Process: Candidates downloaded their admit cards from the official IRDAI website using their Registration Number or Roll Number and Password or Date of Birth. 
• Interview Call Letter: The interview call letters were sent to shortlisted candidates through email and speed post. The interviews were conducted from 15th to 17th February 2025 at the IRDAI Head Office in Hyderabad.  

What is the IRDAI Grade A Exam Pattern 2026?

The IRDAI Grade A examination pattern remains the same every time. Since familiarity with the exam pattern is also one of the important aspects of the journey an aspirant must have, this section will help you understand that below. 

IRDAI Phase 1 Exam Pattern 

• No. of Questions: The Phase 1 paper contains a total of 160 questions. 
• Total Marks: The examination carries a total of 160 marks. 
• Time Duration: Candidates are given 90 minutes to complete the examination. 
• Exam Mode: The examination is conducted online through a computer-based test. 
• Nature of Exam: Phase 1 is objective in nature and consists of multiple-choice questions. 
• Marking Scheme: 1/4th of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for every incorrect answer. 
• Selection Value: Phase 1 is qualifying in nature, and its marks are not included in the final merit list.  

IRDAI Phase 2 Exam Pattern 

• No. of Papers: The Phase 2 examination consists of three separate papers. 
• Total Marks: Phase 2 carries a total of 300 marks, with each paper carrying 100 marks. 
• Time Duration: Candidates are given 60 minutes for each paper, making the total examination duration 180 minutes. 
• Exam Mode: Questions are displayed on a computer screen, while candidates have to write their answers on the provided answer sheets. 
• Nature of Exam: All three papers are descriptive in nature. 
• Marking Scheme: There is no negative marking in the Phase 2 descriptive examination. 
• Selection Value: The marks obtained in Phase 2 are considered while preparing the final merit list. 

IRDAI Interview Pattern 

• Selection Stage: Candidates who qualify Phase 2 are shortlisted for the interview round. 
• Interview Weightage: Phase 2 and the interview carry a weightage of 85% and 15%, respectively, in the final selection. 
• Interview Mode: The interview is conducted by IRDAI at the venue and time communicated to shortlisted candidates.

IRDAI Grade A Syllabus 2026

IRDAI Grade A 2024 Result 

Latest Update: The IRDAI Grade A 2024 recruitment process has been completed, and the final result was declared on 21st February 2025. 

• Phase 1 Result: IRDAI declared the Phase 1 result on 26th November 2024. The roll numbers of candidates shortlisted for Phase 2 were provided in the result PDF. 
• Phase 2 Result: The Phase 2 result was declared on 31st January 2025. Candidates were shortlisted for the Interview based on their combined marks in the three Phase 2 papers. 
• Interview Round: The interviews were conducted from 15th to 17th February 2025 at the IRDAI Head Office in Hyderabad. 

IRDAI Grade A Cutoff

The IRDAI Grade A cut-off is the minimum score required to qualify for the next stage of the selection process. The cut-off is decided separately for different categories and may change according to the number of vacancies, the difficulty level of the exam, and the overall performance of candidates. 

In Phase 1, candidates must clear both the sectional and overall cut-offs. The Phase 2 cut-off is based on the combined marks obtained in its three papers, while the final cut-off is calculated using Phase 2 and interview scores in the ratio of 85:15. 

• Phase 1 Cut Off: The Phase 1 cut-off was released with the result on 26th November 2024. It was published 20 days after the examination held on 6th November 2024. 
• Phase 2 and Final Cut Off: The Phase 2 and final selection cut-offs were released on 21st March 2025. This was 90 days after the Phase 2 examination and 28 days after the final result. 
• Cut-Off Release Gap: IRDAI does not follow a fixed gap between the examination and cut-off release. Generally, IRDAI releases the cut-off within 2 to 3 weeks after the declaration of each phase’s exam results
