For SEBI Grade A | 17th June 2024 – 08 mins read
“When you focus on covering the basics with a limited number of sources, you’ll achieve a clear understanding of the subjects in significantly less time.”

– Anuj jindal

From time immemorial, our parents, teachers, and elders have always suggested to us, the younger generation, to focus on working hard if we aim to dream bigger.

However, it’s important to realize that we are living in times of hyper-competitiveness. Be it any field,. Sports, academics, creative arts, research, and the tech world.

And preparing for competitive exams is no exception. To beat the rest of the aspirants, you need to not just focus with dedication but also adopt a smart strategy.

The key features of a smart strategy include identifying and prioritizing the important topics in the syllabus. Next, you must choose the sources you need to refer to in a selective manner.

Let me take you back to my college days for a moment. I vividly remember the time when only 2–3 months were left for me to prepare for my final year papers.

As an active student in my college life, I participated in many extracurricular activities and events that took place on campus.

Well, the result was that I missed most of my classes and had no idea how to catch up with my peers, who were referring to a plethora of sources at that time!

I was panicking a lot just when a realization dawned on me. Why not focus on studying selectively after understanding the exam’s requirements? Next thing I remember is studying dedicatedly for the next 3 months and actively revising from limited resources.

As a result, not only did I score marks equal to those of my peers, but I also beat them in a few subjects by scoring higher in my final exams.

So, you see, when you are preparing for SEBI Grade A, one of the most effective ways to study is to refer to a concise list of resources.

To help you with the same, I am going to share some reliable sources you can make use of to cover SEBI Grade A syllabus.

Are you excited? So, let us begin!

Sources to refer for Phase 1 exam

The Phase 1 exam consists of two papers, i.e., Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 consists of subjects like general awareness and qualifying sections like the QRE.

    • For General Awareness, you can refer to SEBI Grade A current affairs and cover the section for daily news available both on my website and on my Youtube Channel.
    • For the section of QRE, you can go through various banking Youtube channels like Adda 247 & Oliveboard.

💡Bonus Tip💡:

Regular practice of questions will help you boost your confidence in the QRE section. For that, you can refer to my book on Quant, Reasoning, and English Past Year Papers for RBI, SEBI, and NABARD.

It contains carefully curated questions to make you familiar with the difficulty level of this section.

In Paper 2, we have merit subjects such as Commerce, Accountancy, Finance, Management, Costing and Companies Act. You can take a look at the following sources:

    • Management subject: You can refer to the website of the Management Study Guide. It not only covers Management but also other subjects.
    • Economics subject: You can refer to Srijan’s Youtube playlist covering 11th & 12th class Economics NCERTs.
    • Commerce & Accountancy: You can refer to CA Naresh Aggarwal Youtube channel playlist titled “Introduction to Accounting”
    • Costing subject: You can refer to the YouTube channel called Cost Accounting by IIT Bombay and another channel called Financial Accounting by IIT Mandi, lectures taken by Dr. Prem Singh.
    • Companies Act: You can refer to Ekeeda’s Youtube playlist on Commerce & Management covering this topic. Apart from this, you can also go through the Companies Act Key Highlights & Analysis PDF provided on the PWC website.

Apart from these, you can also refer to the SEBI Grade A free study material that I have compiled to help you cover both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the syllabus.

Sources to refer for Phase 2 exam

Talking about the Phase 2 exam, like the first phase, it consists of two papers, i.e., Paper 1 English Descriptive, and Paper 2, which comprises the same subjects as Paper 2 of Phase 1, i.e., Commerce, Accountancy, Economics, Finance, Management, and Companies Act.

Since the English descriptive exam consists of 3 questions from topics like Essay, Precis and Reading Comprehension, there are no defined sources that you must refer to complete the syllabus.

    • For Paper 1 English descriptive, you can practice questions and essay topics provided on YouTube channels like Adda247.
    • For Paper 2 subjects, since the syllabus is same as given in Paper 2 of Phase 1 exam, you can refer to the sources as specified above for Phase 1. However, the difficulty level of Paper 2 of Phase 2 is slightly higher compared to Phase 1.
    • In Paper 2 subjects like Economics, Commerce & Accountancy, and Costing, there is an addition of numericals in the Phase 2 syllabus. For the theoretical portion of these subjects, you can refer to ICAI study material. Whereas for numericals, you can start with the basics by referring to the CBSE Class 12th Accountancy Textbook.

💡Bonus Tip💡:

The Companies Act contains numerous chapters with factual details. To effectively recall this extensive information, you can make use of techniques like mnemonics and mind maps. These visual aids will help you retain facts for a longer period of time!

As you have gone through the sources, you can also take a look at the day – wise SEBI Grade A study plan and prep tips that I have created to enhance your preparation and confidence.

My advice to the aspirants

When you are planning to prepare for an exam as competitive as SEBI Grade A, it is important to not over complicate the process.

Sticking to the basics and having a concise list of sources is one of the most effective ways to begin your preparation.

So, if you make sure to revise multiple times from these sources, you will be able to gain conceptual clarity of the syllabus and ultimately attempt good number of questions in the exam.

I am confident that by referring to the sources that I specified for Phase 1 and Phase 2 exam, you will find it easier to understand the topics.

Always remember to make the process simple for yourself. Simplification will naturally follow when you focus on quality over quantity.

Therefore, pay attention to getting your basics clear and covering the syllabus from this concise list of sources, you will find yourself more confident during exam time!
