1) Age Eligibility

The RBI Assistant age limit must be between 20 to 28 years of age for the General category as of 01st February 2026.  

  • SC/ST candidates get a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit.  
  • OBC candidates have an upper age limit of 3 years.  
  • The following are the age relaxations for for PwD candidates:

To be eligible for the RBI Assistant exam, a candidate must be one of the following:  

    • A citizen of India, or  
    • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or  
    • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or  
    • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of permanently settling in India.

As noted above, this is the last stage of the RBI Assistant exam 2026 and the shortlisted candidates from the Mains Exam are eligible for the Language Proficiency Test (LPT).  

  • Descriptive in nature: The LPT tests your skills reading, writing, speaking, and your proficiency in regional language of your state you applied for.   
  • Mode of exam: The exam mode is offline in written (pen and paper) format held at RBI Regional Office of the state/zone you applied for.

RBI Assistant Result 2026

The RBI Assistant result for Prelims is declared after 20-25 days of the exam. As the Prelims Exam is scheduled on 11th April 2026, candidates can expect the result in the first week of May 2026.

    • You will be given a total time of 135 minutes, and you must complete each section within the allotted sectional time limit.  

    Language Proficiency Test –

    • This is a mandatory qualifying test, and the candidates who clear the Mains exam must take the Language Proficiency Test. 
    • This regional language test checks the candidate’s communication skills such as reading, writing, and speaking, in the regional language of the state you applied for. 
    • If you do the qualify for the LPT, you will not be eligible for final selection even if you clear the Mains exam.

    What is RBI Assistant LPT test and why is it hard?

    RBI Assistant LPT is a mandatory round and qualifying test in the official language of the region you applied for.  

    • Unlike Prelims and Mains, it is descriptive in nature, and the exam mode is offline, that said, it is in pen and paper-based format.  
    • It evaluates your communication skills such as reading, writing, comprehension and proficiency in speaking in your regional/official language. 
    • The difficulty level of the exam is easy to moderate for those candidates who can read, write, and speak and understand in their regional language.  

    As you are provided a strict 30-60 minutes to complete the paper, you may get overwhelmed but with practice and strategy, you can qualify the compulsory LPT test.

    Is it mandatory to qualify RBI Assistant LPT Test?

    Yes, it is mandatory to qualify LPT test, which is conducted after the Mains exam. Even if you clear the Mains, you must qualify it for the final selection as an RBI Assistant.

    • Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree with 50% marks for General (Pass class for SC/ST/PwD Candidates)
