Working in a prestigious institution like SEBI is a dream for many in this country and while aspirants are usually enthusiastic at the beginning of the preparation, their minds get filled with several doubts and confusion related to their preparation over time.
As a mentor and having interacted with many students, I often get asked the question of what exactly toppers do that leads them to achieve success in competitive exams.
Well, many aspirants believe it to be their rigorous preparation and years of experience in appearing for the exams that make it easy for them.
But let me tell you that it is not true at all, since there are candidates who have managed to clear this exam soon after completing their graduation on their first attempt.
So where does the difference lie between those who have cleared the exam and those who haven’t?
Some of the common factors behind attaining exam success which have been routinely discussed include rigorous preparation, ample practice, and regular revision.
But what if I tell you that there are other tips and tricks that can greatly enhance your preparation and make you exam-ready?
In this blog, I am going to take you through the methods that you can utilize to crack the SEBI Grade A examination and carve your success path in the exam journey.
Method No 01: Create your cheat sheet
One of the key ways to do so is by formulating a cheat sheet to concise all the information. For example, let’s take the topic of the Companies Act, as it includes many chapters which are quite lengthy.
In such a case, you can start by listing down all the factually detailed topics and highlighting the key points related to each of them.
Similarly, you can write down all the formulas for solving numericals that are asked in the exam and revise them at regular intervals.
Method No 02: Utilize mind maps and flow charts for better retention
However, the relevance of using the diagrams is often understated during exam preparation. As I mentioned earlier, with such a vast syllabus in hand, it becomes a challenge for aspirants to recall every detail.
Hence, creating flow charts helps in visualizing the information in pictorial form which takes less time and helps you remember all the important points.
For topics or concepts that contain various types or characteristics, you can make a mind – -map to segregate different forms and write all the related features of the topic in short sentences.
Method No. 03: Regularly revise to minimize mistakes
The aspirants often spend their time and worries into covering all the topics, while the practice of revising the topics takes a backseat which is a major mistake to make.
Therefore, allocate sufficient time to revise all the themes on a daily as well as weekly basis. After completing a particular chapter or topic, you can allocate a revision time of 1 – 2 hours for the same.
This practice will ultimately help you minimize mistakes, recall information, and boost your confidence.
Method No. 04: Make Mnemonics to attain mastery
Another proven technique to effectively recall any factual topic is by making mnemonics for the given topic. The mnemonics are the short forms that usually include the first letter of the term.
This practice helps in memorizing many terms, especially for topics that contain various types or subheadings.
As there are plenty of such topics, making mnemonics will help save you a lot of time during exams and assist in recollecting the required information.
Method No 05: Do a thorough analysis of Mocks & PYQs
While solving mocks and past year papers are considered key pillars of exam preparation; however, it is equally significant to carefully go through the papers to understand the pattern of the examination.
Performing analysis comes with many benefits as it helps in identifying the important topics, the difficulty level of the questions, and the approach you must adopt to tackle difficult topics.
Apart from this, it also helps in identifying and understanding your strengths and weaknesses which prompts you to work accordingly to enhance your performance for the exam.
Method No 06: Build concise notes for summarizing topics
However, when it comes to formulating concise information, note-making is a skill that candidates must be proficient at.
It is because to memorize various topics, the aspirants must make short notes of 1- 2 pages that cover a given topic and help them recall what is needed during the exam time.
The short notes you make can entail flowcharts, mind- maps along with usage of mnemonics or cheat codes to present all the information briefly.
Method No 07: Exercise reverse learning for correct assessment
Generally, we follow the norm of completing a particular topic and then practicing the questions to assess our understanding.
But to save time in identifying and covering the important topics, you can start by attempting a mock test first, following it up with a detailed analysis, and then going through the topics.
This will lead you to identify the key topics that are frequently asked in the exam, the pattern of the questions, and lastly, how must read and approach the topics.
My advice to the aspirants
Inculcating these practices of making short notes, creating flowcharts and mind maps, and doing regular revision will help in attaining greater clarity and enhance your memory power.
Following these tricks along with determined efforts will greatly favor your chances of succeeding in this examination!
I am assured that by following these above-mentioned tips and tricks which I discussed in detail above will prove to be beneficial in your exam preparation.
To clear a competitive exam like SEBI Grade A, you must ensure to stay consistent in your journey apart from preparing thoroughly for the same.
Therefore, make sure to employ these strategies in your preparation with focus and I assure you that clearing the exam wouldn’t be the ultimate goal but a stepping stone in your prestigious career!
