Getting selected for a reputed institution like RBI is a dream that many aspirants hold dear to themselves.
Keeping that enthusiasm to accomplish their goals, aspirants begin their exam preparation with focus and determination.
However, in the middle of their preparation, they are often left confused upon going through the vast syllabus for RBI Grade B.
This confusion in turn, then leads them to worry about their prospects of clearing this exam which not only wastes a lot of their precious time but also impedes their willingness to complete the daily study targets.
As you all must be well aware the syllabus for the RBI Grade B exam is also dynamic in nature apart from the static part which is the basic foundation.
Rightfully so, I am often asked by the aspirants how can they go about covering such a huge syllabus, given the current affairs that are provided in Spotlight, RBI 247, and PIB sessions on our YouTube platform, in addition to the static portion of Finance, Management and ESI subjects.
The next question that follows is how can we manage to remember such extensive information in our tiny brains.
Well, put all your worries to rest as I am going to discuss some techniques and tricks you can utilize to effectively recall the information you need at the right time.
So, what are we waiting for? Let’s get started!
Technique No 01: Connecting the dots is a way to go sure-shot
To begin with, remembering everything you have studied might seem a tedious task if you go ahead without a proper understanding of the topic.
One of the efficient techniques to retain any information for a longer duration of time is to create a link between diverse topics.
To demonstrate how you can apply this method in current affairs, let me give you a simple example.
Let’s take the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, I am sure you must know about its capital city which is Lucknow.
Assuming you have a moderate understanding of General Awareness, you would know that the headquarters of SIDBI are located in this city.
As soon as we think of SIDBI, we can now attempt to recall the CMD and chairperson of the organization.
So, you see that these few words could be used as a trigger to recall information- U.P. – Lucknow- SIDBI headquarters – CMD/ Chairperson.
This technique has helped me immensely when I was an aspirant myself, therefore I can vouch for this!
Technique No 02: Teach someone and recall better
Albert Einstein once said, “If you can’t explain it simply, it means you don’t understand it well enough”. As a mentor myself, I must say it stands true!
But, why do I say so? It is because when one intends to explain any topic to the other person, he/she must have a thorough understanding of the concept first.
Therefore, prepare your topics to teach the same to comprehensively understand that particular topic.
By doing so, you will also gain an idea of the kinds of questions that could be asked from the topic.
With the assumed responsibility of teaching your peers, close ones, or be it anyone else, you will surely go the extra mile to learn the topic and simplify it a great deal!
Technique No 03: Avoid underlining in excess
I know you must be feeling confused as to why am I advocating this. Well, to give you context of the statement that I have made.
You can go through your old books which you have studied or referred to in the past, you might observe the pages which are heavily underlined.
So, you see, it usually happens that when aspirants begin to highlight the important points, they end up underlining the entire chapter and that defeats the purpose of underscoring the key points.
Hence, I suggest my students highlight only 10 – 20% of the chapter and that only important definitions, major keywords, and terms.
Ensuring to do so will help you to memorize key concepts, and topics and prepare the right way for this exam.
Technique No 04: Create a story to recollect smartly
Another effective method I utilized during my exam preparation was to create a narrative about the chapter I was studying, especially when I talk about government schemes and current affairs.
To give you an example, let’s create a character called Shobit who is a beneficiary of MNREGA. Now, to understand an important government scheme like MNREGA, I would create a story revolving around Shobit.
For example, what are the benefits and wages that shall be granted to Shobit under MNREGA, or the purpose behind creating MNREGA to provide benefits to beneficiaries like Shobit?
This way you can not only recall crucial information at the given moment but also make your studies engaging and more fun!
Technique No 05: Make current affairs your prep Buddy
As I have mentioned earlier, the syllabus for the RBI Grade B exam is also dynamic in nature apart from being static.
Thus, covering current affairs becomes an absolute must and the question of neglecting this portion does not simply arise!
An interesting way by which you can current affairs a part of your daily routine is to link it with your everyday life.
Let me again provide you an example using my experience, I travel in my car from office to home daily.
During my travel, I came to a place called Pragati Maidan, from where I recalled Bharat Mandapam which recently hosted the G- 20 Summit and I attempted to recollect all the important features of the Summit.
So, this is one of the methods by which you can link the current events taking place to your everyday life and more so, make it interesting.
Advice to the aspirants
Lastly, apart from these tips, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of revising regularly.
I strongly suggest utilizing these techniques at the beginning of your exam preparation to effectively study and understand all the topics from the syllabus.
