Insightful Prep Tips to check for SEBI Grade A 2024

For SEBI Grade A | 22nd March 2024 – 10 mins read
“Foundations of great success lie in focus, dedicated efforts, strategic planning, and effective utilization of time.”

– Karnima Arora

It is quite human to dream of achieving something great in life, but the accomplishment of that goal is realized only when a clear vision meets action.

Well, that is not something new that I just said, but we have all heard it countless number of times.

But despite that, many of us don’t fully comprehend its significance and wait until the very last minute to begin the task. The case for the SEBI Grade A exam is being no different!

This is where I want to come in to emphasize utilizing the time that has been bestowed upon you.

A common mistake that aspirants make is to assume they have ample amount of time until the notification arrives.

But time passes by, my friend.

So, why not fully utilize the time given and aim for achieving great marks rather than just spending the rest of the day checking anxiously if you have managed to clear the cutoff?

For this, I have solid reasons as to why I intend to motivate you towards aiming to score high marks.

Firstly, the pattern of both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the SEBI Grade A is similar given the subjects, time duration, and cutoff. Hence, simultaneously preparing for both phases is easy.

The second reason is the time constraint. While one can wait for the notification to come, the truth is that there will be little time for you to prepare for Phase 2 after the commencement of Phase 1.

With that said, you must be wondering what steps I should take to make sure I score great marks in the exam.

Well, have no worries. I got you covered. We are going to discuss the SEBI Grade A strategy twofold, i.e., before exam and during the exam.

Taking care of the things that I am going to mention in this blog will help you prepare holistically and give you an extra edge during the exam.

Part 1: Before Exam

Step No. 01: Identify your strengths and weaknesses

Knowing one self, i.e., your strong areas or shortcomings, is the first step towards unlocking your full potential
Knowing yourself isn’t just a philosophical quote but a motto to be applied in every arena of your life.

When it comes to preparing holistically for anything, be it an exam or sports, you really cannot do it without doing a proper self-analysis.

The same holds true for aspirants preparing for the SEBI Grade A exam. Since the syllabus is quite vast, presuming to know every subject in a thorough manner will be quite an unrealistic expectation to hold from oneself!

Thus, after having gone through the syllabus properly, segregate the topics you hold a good command of and the ones you can improve on as you proceed ahead.

If you haven’t yet gone through the syllabus, have no worries. You can take a look at the latest SEBI Grade A syllabus for Phase 1 and Phase 2.

Step No. 02: Strategize accordingly

It is said that if you fail to strategize, then you are strategizing to fail. This is where I want to highlight the importance of having a proper plan in place.

Prepare well for important topics

An essential part of strategizing for the exam is to identify and cover all the key topics that have been asked in the exam. One of the ways to do this is to practice previous year papers to familiarize yourself with the types of questions that have been asked.

Sort your syllabus

After identifying the important topics, focus on covering the basics or the topics you find easier to complete.  Or reverse the order and complete the topics you find lengthy or difficult to cover.

For example, there is a subject called Company’s Law, which is considered to be quite lengthy to cover. You can finish the subject if you feel it is going to take a lot of your time.

There are a few other key topics that you must know, in Economy subject, there are concepts like Demand & Supply, IS- LM and Markets.

The management subject comprises questions from topics like leadership, motivation, and communication.

Apart from these, there are numerical based questions that are asked in the exam.

Step No. 03: Work on your mental fitness

Regularly revise to minimize mistakes
Just like the players during their preparation period, they focus on maintaining their physical fitness.

Similarly, aspirants preparing for an exam like SEBI Grade A must focus on strengthening themselves mentally.

How can you exactly ensure that?

Follow a disciplined timetable. Firstly, create a realistic study schedule and make sure you follow it through consistently. Plan a day before what you want to read the next day, and then revise the particular topic to complete it.

And you can make it happen when there are a few things around that can actually distract you.

While I am not telling you to go to an extreme end to avoid social media completely, do keep a check on the time you spend scrolling through the app.

This is not just to help you cover the syllabus but also to simplify your preparation for the exam.

Step No. 04: Do consistent revision

Given that there are so many subjects that you ought to cover during your preparation, you must make sure the concepts get registered in your subconscious mind.

For that, there is no better way to ensure that than to revise all the chapters on a regular basis.

So, make revision a part of your daily study schedule and notice a significant change in your memory skills and recall abilities.

The art of doing revision can be easy if you have adequate resources for it. You can check the carefully compiled SEBI Grade A free material for effective retention.

Step No. 05: Practice with Real-Time Simulation with Mocks!

Do a thorough analysis of Mocks & PYQs
Just like it happens in the game of cricket, the players, before arriving for D-day, prepare rigorously, whether it is T-20, ODI, or the World Cup. Here comes the importance of doing net practice.

If you are a batsman, you would need to practice against every type of baller—spinner or yorker, to name a few and that too within actual ground.

Similarly, you must make sure that you practice in real settings, i.e., in an exam-like environment.

That being said, within the time limit, solve both Paper 1 and Paper 2 one after the other.

And so, the answer lies in practicing as many mocks as possible and being well prepared to answer every type of question.

These questions can be divided into three broad categories: Factual, conceptual, and numerical-based questions.

Part II: During the exam time

Step No. 01: Be prepared for every situation

Considering the difficulty level of the exam, you must be prepared for any kind of question that can be asked in the exam. So, you must remain unfazed and be ready to tackle even the most difficult questions. Therefore, attempt as many mock tests as possible.

Step No. 02: Target at least 35+ Questions

Scoring 70–80 marks in SEBI Grade A is a great feat. Hence, if you are targeting to score these many marks in the exam, you must focus on attempting at least 35–40 questions in the exam. You must have a proper assessment of your accuracy in the number of questions attempted.

Step No. 03: Avoid Silly Mistakes & do not leave easy questions

Just like in cricket, when you see your favourite fielder miss an easy catch. The feeling is the same when you, too, make the mistake of missing questions that you have attempted easily.

In your quest to answer difficult questions, do not skip easy questions that could have easily fetched you marks in the exam.

Step No. 04: Handling pressure during exams

A person feeling confident and smiling while writing test
To handle real pressure in the exams, adequate practice of mock tests is a must. Getting accustomed to the real nature of the exam is an excellent way to handle the jitters and nervousness that aspirants usually feel during the exam.

You see, confidence comes naturally when one feels prepared enough.
