For RBI Grade B | 01st March 2024 – 12 mins read
“When you combine your purpose with inner passion and self-improvement, you become an unstoppable force to achieving greatness.”
– Manish Mishra
Love is not an unfamiliar feeling, and we find it being used in creative arts like poetry, films, books, songs and songs, as well as to describe social relationships, but rarely do we equate it with exams.
I know it sounds like a strange topic to discuss. But the question that we must ask ourselves is how often do we sit back and contemplate the reasons we fail to achieve a particular task?
My answer to that question is lack of passion and purpose. It sounds peculiar, doesn’t it?
Ever noticed that when we do something we love, our hard work, motivation, and dedication automatically amp up to the point where it doesn’t even feel like an effort.
Taking an example of cricket, the dedication of Team India is often equated with the success they have achieved today.
Does that mean they have never encountered failures or challenges during their practice? Not true at all.
It is because they are intensely passionate about their sport and willing to work on their shortcomings.
And that is exactly what you need to inculcate in your approach towards the exam!
However, many of us mistakenly assume that we must be driven towards the getting the results. While, there is no denying about its significance but I am talking about an aspect which is deeper than that.
To elaborate on what exactly I mean when I say about one’s outlook towards the exam, continue reading the blog, as I shall reveal the big reason why we fail in exams and how can we make a shift in our perception for better result.
Well, that sounds interesting to you right? So, let’s get started!
Failure in exam- Blame it on lack of love
Having been a mentor for so many years now, I have encountered students who, despite having worked very hard and ticked off the all-right boxes like covering the syllabus, sitting for long hours, maintaining a disciplined schedule were still unable to clear this exam.
The reason here is not the lack of knowledge, efforts or potential in an aspirant, but simply the mindset or the attitude towards the exam.
Let me explain this using an equation which is not exactly mathematical; however relevant.
Success in any task is directly proportional to the love and efforts you put in for the same!
While hard work is a constant factor and widely assumed as the most important aspect.
But when you combine this factor with a strong emotion of passion or love, you truly become invincible.
As heightened emotion like love not just pushes people to achieve success but drives them towards attaining excellence.
Why do we not love the exams – Focus in the wrong direction!
I know many of you must be confused that if it is isn’t for our desire or love towards the exam, why would we bother preparing for it?
I trust you when you say you are desirous or feel love towards your goal. However, that is where many of us remain stuck.
It is absolutely great when we desire to achieve success in the end result, but it is equally important for us to enjoy the process too.
Now, it’s not exactly our fault as our brains are wired towards thinking about the results or rewards and skip a very crucial step in between, i.e., the process or the journey!
Taking an example of a seed, it will be very silly of us to believe that will grow by itself without giving the proper nutrients along the way.
The same goes for when you decide to prepare for a competitive examination like RBI Grade B.
How to develop love for the exams—the answer lies within you!
It is natural for you to ask the very next obvious question, but how can I cultivate the right approach or convince myself to love this exam?
For that, I am going to explain a few factors that you must keep in mind that will be helpful during your preparation.
It is natural for you to ask the very next obvious question, but how can I cultivate the right approach or convince myself to love this exam?
For that, I am going to explain a few factors that you must keep in mind that will be helpful during your preparation.
Understand your core motivations
Remember the days when we used to sit for our school exams and somehow manage to cram study notes a day before the test?
Well, those days are gone now, and the primary reason we used to hate them is because we were all under compulsion.
Meanwhile, do you recall the time when you excelled in any extracurricular activity or hobby during school time, and that too without complaints?
That’s because we loved and enjoyed what we were doing without ever being under compulsion.
Similarly, you need to know that you must not be under external influences or pressure to prepare for the exam but rather act from your inner calling!
Understand that it is you against you when it comes to preparing to reach your fullest potential.
Self-Evaluation & Critical Analysis are the keys!
Before you begin your preparation, it is absolutely essential for you to know to your strengths and weaknesses.
This is where many aspirants make a major mistake that is to never take into consideration their strong and weak areas.
For this, I advise aspirants to carefully go through the syllabus first and assess the topics that are the given for the exam.
Next, to know the type of questions that are asked, sit down and look at the previous year question papers.
It shall provide you an insight into the nature of the exam and familiarize you with the difficulty level of the questions.
Self-improvement is a must-have quality!
After identifying your strengths and weaknesses and assessing your preparation, you must focus on improving your performance.
This is a crucial aspect that has a bridging factor between the exam preparation to success for so many aspirants.
It includes important steps like regular practice of mock tests, consistent revision of the syllabus and working on areas with weak conceptual understanding.
Consistently working on your shortcomings and keeping a track on progress while being disciplined is the way to go for this exam.
Advice to the aspirants
Lastly, my advice to the students is that you must a adopt a right approach but also take it easy.
For this, it is essential for candidates to focus not on the results but on the process. So become a process – oriented person who tries to direct attention towards their preparation.
As it is said for that journey is more important than the destination and these are some words from a wise person!
To summarize, it is only by focussing on the present moment that you can know the right things for yourself.
As I strongly believe, if you truly decide to give your all in the process, the road to success shall naturally unveil itself to you.
So, don’t be afraid to put your best leg forward, march your feet with passion and you shall walk down the path to greatness!
