The exam (RBI Grade B exam) one needs to take to become a Grade B officer is held annually and is applied for by almost one lakh candidates every year. Out of those, only about 150-200 get to be Grade B officers. So, you can imagine how tough the competition is.
That is the reason why so many of the past year’s RBI Grade B toppers advise new applicants to check out the RBI Grade B cut off scores of the past years.
Doing so gives us an idea about the difficulty level or the kind of competition that can be expected out of the upcoming RBI Grade B exams.

What Cut Off really means?
Now, let us take a moment to understand what cut off really means.
So, as a general rule, the RBI Grade B cut offs for any of the phases basically stand for the marks secured by the last candidate to clear a particular phase and qualify for the next round.
For example, suppose the score “x” is the cut off mark for the Phase 1 exam. What that means is, the score “x” was the score secured by the last candidate to qualify for Phase 2.

RBI Grade B Cut Off 2024
Latest Update: The RBI Grade B Phase 1 2024 cut off are announced on the 01st October 2024. The exam for Phase 1 was held on 08th September 2024.
For Phase 1 examination, there is a provision for both sectional and overall cutoff in each of the subjects. Therefore, it is important for candidates to be mindful of scoring above the sectional as well as overall cutoff to qualify for Phase 2 exam.
However, in case of Phase 2 exam, the candidates only need to score above the overall cutoff as there is no provision of sectional cutoff. Following which, the candidates will be selected for the final stage, i.e., the Interview.
An important point to note here is, that your marks obtained in the Phase 2 and Interview together would determine your final selection.
Therefore, to ensure getting good score above both sectional and overall cutoff in Phase 1 and Phase 2 overall cutoff, you must prepare diligently for the exam and be thorough with the type of questions asked in both phases.

The RBI Grade B cut offs for each year depends on certain determinants. I have listed them below:
- The Difficulty level of Exams of the particular year.
- The Total number of Grade B vacancies released by the RBI for the year.
- The number of candidates that appear for the exam of the particular year.
- The Normalisation process employed by the RBI.
To elaborate on the kind of correlation that exists between the determinants written above and the cut offs for a particular year, it can be said that more the difficulty level of the paper, the lower will the cut offs for the year, higher the number of candidates applying for the exams that year, higher will be the cut offs, and so forth.

- I have scored just above the RBI Grade B 2023 Phase 1 cut off. What are my chances for final selection?
If you have scored just above the Phase cut off, don’t’ worry, Phase 1 is basically an elimination round. The marks obtained by candidates in it are not taken into consideration when the final RBI Grade B exam scorecard is computed.
So, that basically means, by scoring above the cut off marks in phase 1 you have just been able to secure yourself a seat in the phase 2 paper. Now you must focus on scoring well in the Phase 2 exam and Interview to place yourself on the final selection list.
- Are there any cut off marks for the interview round?
No, there isn’t any cut off marks for the interview round (Phase 3) of the RBI Grade B exams.
However, do not make the mistake of underestimating the Interview round, as the scores you secure in this round can make all the difference in terms of getting you through to being an RBI Grade B officer or missing it.
- Is there a sectional cut off in the RBI Grade B exam?
Yes, there’s a provision of sectional cut off in the RBI Grade B Phase 1 exam. Therefore, you need to remember not to just focus on the sections you are good at. Since every section carries its own separate cut off marks, you’d be wise to pay attention to all of them to the required extent. If you want to know about the cut offs in detail, I have made it available here.
